Region A Honors Choir
Congratulations to the following singers who auditioned on 10/15/11 for a place in the Michigan School Vocal Music Association Region A Honors Choir. They will perform on December 3, 2011 @ 4PM at East Grand Rapids High School and will audition for State Honors Choir.

Region A Honors Choir: Mitch Hillerich, Jacob Anderson, Logan Jones, Shay Stewart, Kelly Monahan and Maura Monahan.

Marching Band Festival Results 2011

Congratulations to the West Ottawa High School Marching Band for receiving a First Division Rating for the 9th year in a row at the MSBOA District X Marching Festival at Zeeland High School on Tuesday, October 11. The band received Straight I's for their performance. This means all three judges (Music, Marching, General Effect) gave the band a First Division rating. In addition, the band received A's in all subcategories of assessment from all of their judges.

GRAMMY Finialist!
West Ottawa High School has been selected as one of 129 finalists nation-wide for the 2011 GRAMMY Signature School Award. Created in 1998, the GRAMMY Signature Schools program recognizes top U.S. public high schools that are making an outstanding commitment to musiceducation during an academic school year. "Each year, the GRAMMY Signature Schools program celebrates schools across the U.S. that have created exemplary music programs," saidNeil Portnow, Recording Academy and GRAMMY Foundation President. "These schools recognize the influential role music plays in the lives of young people, and are committed to maintaining excellence in their music curricula to better serve their students." The Grammy Foundation, through their Signature Schools program, recognizes high schools based on the breadth and quality of music education they offer. To receive this recognition, schools must demonstrate excellence in all areas of music performance: choir, orchestra, band and jazz band.

West Ottawa High School has been selected as a finalist for this award all five years they have applied. The High School Music Department will send the Grammy Foundation additional application materials, which include lists of repertoire their students have performed during 2010 and recordings of their performances in hopes of being selected to receive the Signature School award. In 2007 West Ottawa High School was one of only twenty-one high schools in the nation to receive the prestigious GRAMMY Signature School Award. Along with the recognition for their school's accomplishment, we received a grant from the GRAMMY Foundation to augment our students' instruction.
